James Frazier Reed correspondence, 1845-1849.

Letters from member of the Donner Party to his brother-in-law, James W. Keyes, describing his journey to California and gold mining ventures there. Two of the letters were published in the Illinois State Register. Also included: letter from another brother-in-law, R.C. Keyes, written shortly after his arrival in California in 1845.
